  1. Sound quality and power

A good 5.1 speaker, the high frequency sound must be crystal clear, even at the maximum volume can not be too saturated. The timbre of the intermediate frequency must be clearly distinguishable, and there should be no vague feeling that it seems to be covered by the cloth. Low frequency sound must be deep and powerful enough, so you should never choose a subwoofer that is small, fuzzy and lacks detailed sound. In terms of balance, high frequency sound cannot cover low frequency sound, and vice versa. It is best that the speaker has the balance adjustment function in this respect.

In addition, there is often a mistake when purchasing speakers, that is, the higher the power, the better. In general, the power value should be indicated by the rated output power, and the ratio between the diaphragm size and the wattage should also be appropriate. For example, the size of power. Generally speaking, speakers with RMS power of about 15W can produce better dynamic effects.

As for distortion, it can be divided into harmonic distortion, intermodulation distortion and transient distortion. The lower the distortion value, the better. The distortion of ordinary multimedia speakers should be less than 0.5%, and the distortion of subwoofers should be less than 5%. The signal-to-noise ratio is the higher the value, the better, and generally should not be lower than 70dB. It should be noted that the power ratio between the subwoofer and the surround speaker should not be too high or too low, usually between 1:2 and 1:4.

  2. 5.1 Speaker design and sound field positioning

Like the traditional 2.1 speaker, the 5.1 speaker is also divided into a surround speaker and a subwoofer.

There are generally two types of design adopted for surround speakers: independent unit type and high and mid tone independent unit type.

  Surround speaker with independent unit

Independent unit design is to use a unit speaker to take charge of all high and mid-range audio output. At present, most computer speakers use this design. The independent unit design has excellent positioning effect because the high and middle tones are output at the same position. However, since the independent unit speaker is a unit speaker responsible for all the high and mid-range audio output, the manufacturer has to find the balance point of its voice color in design, which requires high technical research and development. Therefore, many manufacturers' 5.1 speakers tend to adopt the high and middle tone independent unit design that is easier to make effects.

Surround speaker with two frequency division design

The design of high and mid-range independent units came into being after the concept of PC home theater was put forward. Because both high and mid-range speakers have independent unit speakers, the volume of surround speakers is large and the average output power is also high. Therefore, the tweeter unit generally adopts a special design to make the tweeter clearer. This design has high output power and is suitable for a wide space. It is very suitable for users who like listening to music, but most of them are very expensive.

5.1 In terms of structural design, the subwoofer of the speaker usually adopts three modes: reflective, bipolar and diaphragm.

  Reflective woofer

Reflective subwoofer design can be said to be the main design method of subwoofer for most computer speakers at present. The biggest feature is that it has an inverted port, and the bass unit is in a special position, which can reflect to the wall or the ground. The bass speaker with this design has better bass efficiency and full stiffness.

The design principle of the bipolar type is designed to solve the problem of traditional subwoofers using one unit to vibrate the speakers. Two subwoofers are installed face to face. When two units are played together, they can offset the vibration generated by each other, making the sound quality of the subwoofers more pure. However, due to the offset of the degree of vibration of the speaker, the bass effect is slightly reduced. Because the cost of adopting this design is high, because bass units are added on both sides of the chassis, which is much more expensive than the traditional unit reflection. Only the very advanced 5.1 speakers can adopt this design, which is rare in the market at present.

  Diaphragm woofer

As for the diaphragm type design, it is somewhat similar to the bipolar type. One unit is used to make the bass, and one (or two) diaphragm is added on the other side. When the bass unit vibrates, the diaphragm will vibrate together. Its biggest advantage is that it can make the bass performance more natural and average. However, to achieve the effect of bass average, it requires more accurate design. If the diaphragm cannot vibrate synchronously with the bass, the result may backfire. In addition, the circuitous diaphragm design has a weakness, that is, the response of releasing bass is slow, and it is relatively difficult to do well, which is rare in the market.
