For novice enthusiasts, choosing a good set of speakers is not an easy task. If you don't pay attention, you may buy back a bunch of decorative speakers that are "tasteless to eat, but unfortunately discarded". It's frustrating to spend money but not receive good feedback. Learning to choose a speaker is important, so what should I pay attention to when choosing a speaker? The following is a brief introduction to four important indicators for you.
1. Impedance
The input impedance of a speaker is generally divided into two types: high impedance and low impedance. Generally, the impedance higher than 16 Ω is high impedance, and the impedance lower than 8 Ω is low impedance. The standard impedance of a speaker is 8 Ω.
A 4 Ω speaker can achieve twice the sound pressure level (3dB) under the standard 2.83V voltage input of the power amplifier. Simply put, when the volume knob of the amplifier is placed on the same scale, a 4 Ω speaker can be louder than a regular 8 Ω speaker. Of course, achieving higher loudness also imposes higher current requirements on the power amplifier.
2. Sensitivity
Sensitivity refers to the sound pressure generated at a distance of one meter from the speaker at a power output of one watt to the speaker. For example, if the sensitivity of Tianyi's child flute No. 8 landing box is 87dB, and a 1W electrical signal is given at a distance of one meter, it can generate a sound pressure level of 87dB. So the higher the sensitivity, the greater the sound pressure level that the speaker can provide.
When using the same amplifier to drive speakers with different sensitivities, under the same output power, the higher the sensitivity of the speaker, the louder the sound; On the other hand, with a fixed and constant target sound pressure level, a speaker with higher sensitivity requires less power. What enthusiasts say is "this pair of speakers are easy to push", which is basically what they mean.
3. Rated power
Rated power is a reference indicator for speakers, which does not indicate the quality of the speaker, but only provides a reference for selecting power amplifiers. For example, the power range of the floor mounted speaker for the child flute No.8 is 20W-150W, which means that the power amplifier required to drive the speaker must have an output power of at least 20W or above. However, it is not recommended to use amplifiers larger than 150W for full power output, otherwise the speaker may burn out.
Generally speaking, household speakers do not have the worry of not being able to be pushed, only the problem of whether they are easy to push or not, and the carrying power below 150W is much more than enough for the use of ordinary households.
4. Frequency response range
Simply put, the frequency response range refers to the range of sound frequencies that can be reproduced to the appropriate volume when playing music or sound effects on the speaker. Due to factors such as speaker unit and box design, the frequency response range between bookshelf boxes and floor boxes varies greatly. For example, the frequency range of Tianyi Tongdi No. 9 bookshelf box is 40Hz -25KHz, and the frequency range of Tongdi No. 8 floor box is 35Hz -25KHz.
